RE: WHAT IS A "SUPPRESSIVE PERSON" ?
According to L. Ron Hubbard, a suppressive person is "a person
who seeks to suppress, or squash, any betterment activity or group.
A suppressive person suppresses other people in his vicinity. This
is the person whose behavior is calculated to be disastrous. Well-known
examples of such a personality are Napoleon and Hitler. Mr. Hubbard
found that a suppressive person, also called an anti-social personality,
has definite anti-social attributes.
The basic reason the anti-social personality behaves as he or she does
lies in a hidden terror of others. To such a person every other being
is an enemy, an enemy to be covertly or overtly destroyed. The fixation
is that survival itself depends on "keeping others down" or
"keeping people ignorant." If anyone were to promise to make
others stronger or brighter, the anti-social personality would suffer
the utmost agony.
Because of this, the suppressive person seeks to upset, continuously
undermine, spread bad news about and denigrate betterment activities and
groups. Thus the anti-social personality is against what Scientology
is about -- helping people become more able and improving conditions in
society. For the good of the Church and the individuals in it, such a
person is officially labeled a suppressive person so that others will
know not to associate with them.
Church of Scientology International
And now for the truth
What a heaping load of bullocks (1. A castrated bull; a steer. 2. A
young bull!) Scientology routinely labels anyone who says anything
truthful about their history or Scientology's contemporary activities
a "SP" or a "Suppressive Person." That includes
District Attorney officers, Law Enforcement officers, Judges, the loved
ones of followers who try to save their friends and family who fall
into the organization, media reporters and journalists that cover
Scientology, and of course Human Rights and Freedom of Speech Rights
activists. All qualify for Scientology's written policy of
Fair Game.
People who wake up to the frauds comitted against them by the Scientology
crime syndicate who then leave the organization and start talking to
law enforcement agencies, the media, intelligence agencies, and even
just neighbors get labeled "Suppressive Persons" so that the
crime syndicate can justify committing further racketeering actions
against them according to L. Ron Hubbard's written policy. As is
offered in the Fair Game link I just provided, enemies that get
labeled "SPs" fall under Hubbard's policy:
Often victims of Scientology r the family members of victims of Scientology
are sued to silence them -- with no hope of winning the lawsuit, of course,
yet that's not the point; Scientology doesn't sue to win, they sue to
silence the truth about their criminal enterprise. If that sounds a
little outrageous and you're wondering how they get away with it, let's
take a look at another one of L. Ron Hubbard's policies which specifically
states Scientology's reason for sueing people:
"The law can be used very easily to harass, and enough harassment
on somebody who is simply on the thin edge anyway, will knowing that
he is not authorized, will generally be sufficient to cause his
professional decease. If possible, of course, ruin him utterly."
-- A Manual on the Dissemination of Material (1955) by L. Ron
Hubbard.
If that racketeering policy wasn't enough, we also have another one
of Hubbard's policies:
So the practice of labeling people "SPs" sets the conditions
under which the organization justifies engaging in further racketeering
activities against their assumed enemies: anyone who speaks the truth
about Scientology. Scientology -- as you can see in their official claim
faithfully reproduced above -- tries to equate people who expose
Scientology's criminal basis for existance as the equal to both Napoleon
and Adolf Hitler.
Does that sound sane to you?
Doubtlessly the organization tells its followers that anyone who says
anything to the police, Federal agents, the media, neighbors, and even
family members are some how "suppressing or squashing betterment
activities or groups" with, of course, the understated yet solidly
implanted notion -- however insane -- that Scientology is just such
a "betterment group."
What's probably more telling than all of the once-secret internal policy
letters which expose the criminal basis of Scientology's "Fair
Game" and "Suppressive Person" labeling is the very quote
the official Scientology spokesperson states above. Specifically:
Here Scientology is stating outright that they label people "SPs"
specifically to keep followers still inside of the criminal organization
from being able to talk with cops, the media, family members, and everyone
else that the syndicate wants to silence. The reason is "for
the good" of the crime syndicate, absolutely: when people find out
about Scientology's history, they "blow," as it's called, and
leave the organization and that's bad for business. As for such a policy
being some how good for the victim, when has being ordered never to
speak to your family just because they want to help get a loved one out
of a crimnal racket ever good for anyone?
While the criminal racketeering "Fair
Game" activities which Scientology engages in against their
"enemies" is not at all amusing, human rights and freedom
of speech rights activists have none-the-less managed to find some
humor in their classification by the criminal enterprise as
"Suppressive Persons" or "SPs" for short.
Law enforcement officers, judges, reporters, intelligence officers,
and rights activists have all been branded as "SPs" bv the
Scientology organization and while doubtlessly the organization considers
such a classification to be intimidating and sufficient in itself to
silence the truth about their crimes, the reality is that being targeted
for destruction by Scientology is something of a badge of honor among
activists -- and in at least one notable occasion (which I refuse to
describe) among law enforcement officers as well.
Accordingly, activists rate themselves from levels 1 through 9 according
to how much of an enemy Scientology believes them to be based upon the
level of activism the rights activist engages in. Here, then, is the
joke which activists have created and adopted as a badge of honor. It
annoyes the living hell out of the Scientology organization and as such
that alone is enough to do it.
There is no officially ratified means for acknowledging multiple messages
being cancelled, although some SP's use the Clam Cluster to signify this.
It is regrettable that, thanks to Kobrin's recent antics, the status
of SP4 has declined somewhat due to the number of individuals who have
received legal threats from her. Indeed, since she recently
"served" the entire newsgroup, an unprecedented action in
legal history, some potential suppressives argue that everybody is now
SP4. This is clearly not in the spirit of the SP awards, and it is my
submission that a prerequisite for SP4 should be the attainment of
either SP2 or SP3 prior to the legal threat.
Like SP3, holders of SP4 rank can endorse their level in cases where
multiple threats have been received.
SP9's are indeed worthy individuals.
Note: These endorsements have not yet been fully ratified by ARS
Central Committee, and may be withdrawn or modified at any time.
Clam Cluster
The Clam Cluster is used for SP levels 3 and above, and signifies that
the action against the SP warranting his or her appropriate designation
has been carried out against him or her on more than one separate
occasion. Thus, if an SP receives two or more legal threats from the
cult, his designation will be "SP4 with Clam Cluster".
Honorary Levels
Where an individual has suffered at the cult's hands beyond the call
of duty, it may, at the discretion of the Central Committee, be acceptable
for that individual to claim an Honorary SP level. Such claims must be
submitted to the Committee for ratification on a case-by-case basis.
In general, Honorary SP status will go to individuals who have incurred
the wrath of the cult in the furtherance of SP goals outside Usenet,
eg., authors of critical books, or ex-Scientologists.
One of the most frequent accusations made by Scientologists against
those who criticise them is that they are pawns in some great conspiracy.
Protesters outside orgs are regularly pestered with "Who do you
work for?" or "What organisation do you represent?" in a
desparate attempt to discover where the central conspiracy that L Ron
Hubbard said must exist behind any criticism of Scientology actually is.
It is clear that the concept of a large number of individuals all acting
on their own behalf towards a common purpose is one that Scientologists
find difficult to grasp.
Accordingly, and because posters to alt.religion.scientology are an
obliging lot, the ARS Central Committee was formed. It is a virtual
committee, in the sense that it is never convened, and never formally
sits. Committee decisions are taken via some means unknown to the lower
ranks, but which probably involves massed ranks of psychiatrists,
taking shifts to conduct frivolous ECT procedures and the odd lobotomy,
conveying instructions to the Central Committee mouthpieces.
The Committee has introduced a comprehensive series of statistics-gathering
procedures and documentary processes, which are far too complex to even
begin to describe here. See alt.religion.scientology for more information.

ENEMY SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured
by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the
Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.
"The purpose of a lawsuit is to harass and discourage rather than
to win.... Don't ever defend. Always attack. Find or manufacture
enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace. Originate
a black PR campaign to destroy the person's repute and to discredit
them so thoroughly they will be ostracized..."
"The purpose of the legal officer is to help LRH handle every legal,
government, suit, accounting and tax contact or action... and to bring
the greatest possible confusion and loss to its enemies." -- LRH
Documentary evidence in Church of Spiritual Technology (COST) vs. U.S.,
November 22, 1989.
For the good of the Church and the individuals in it, such a person
is officially labeled a suppressive person so that others will know
not to associate with them.
These, then, are the Official ARS Central Committee SP Levels.
To have your level ratified, it is necessary to claim, with supporting
documentation, that some action by the cult has qualified you for
that level, by posting your claim to the alt.religion.scientology
newsgroup. Since the ARS Central Committee, a faceless bureaucracy,
run by we know not whom, but which no doubt contains a large number
of psychiatrists, reads every message posted to the newsgroup, your
message will be noted and ratification should follow soon.
SP1
The SP1 grade is gained by criticising the cult openly. This is
generally achieved by posting a message critical of the cult to
alt.religion.scientology, but can also be done by protesting outside
a Scientology location (this, generally, ensures automatic promotion
to SP2, thereby skipping a level - it is considered bad form to skip
too many levels at once).
SP2
SP2 can be earned by receiving an acknowledgement from a Scientologist.
This generally takes the form of a response to your message on the
newsgroup, but in the case of protests, will generally be achieved by
a Scientologist talking to you. The response can be (and generally is)
completely inane - it is the fact that you have received the response
that counts, not the quality of the response.
SP3
One of the early senior levels, SP3 is earned by having one of your
messages cancelled by a forged cancel message from the pro-Scientology
cancelpoodle. This level differs from many of the others by virtue of
the fact that cancel messages are logged to alt.religion.scientology
by Lazarus. Thus, if you have posted material that you consider likely
to warrant a forged cancel, all you need do is check the newsgroup for
a Lazarus cancel notification of your message and claim your new level.
SP4
SP4 is achieved by receiving a legal threat from the "Church"
of Scientology. In the vast majority of cases, this has been via an
email message from Helena Kobrin, the Scientologists' pet lawyer, but
other forms of service are equally valid (for the purposes of SP status:
email is certainly not a valid form of legal service, and you'd have
though a lawyer would have known that).
SP5
To attain SP5, you must be "Fair
Gamed," sued, or attacked by the cult. To date, membership
of SP5 is an exclusive club, held mostly by ex-followers of the
Scientology crime syndicate who have spoken to law enforcement and
the media, ex-followers who have sued the organization for kidnapping,
torture, financial frauds, and other abuses, and freedom of speech
activists who have spoken loudly enough about Scientology's abuses
to warrant the higher levels of "Fair Game."
SP6
SP6 status is achieved by making SP5, then successfully defending
yourself against their suit or causing them to cease their
"Fair Game" activities against
you. SP6 is, indeed, a lofty grade, and one hitherto achieved by
very few.
SP7
To achieve SP7, it is necessary to instigate a legal action against
the cult, or members of it. In some ways, this makes SP7 easier to
achieve, since experience suggests that it is nearly impossible to
force the cult to cease attacking once it has started (necessary for
SP6), while cult members regularly provide SP's with cause to instigate
a suit against them. Nonetheless, it takes a brave SP to do such a thing.
SP8
A prerequisite for achieving SP8 is to have made SP7: SP8 requires that
you win your lawsuit against the cult. Note: winning a lawsuit against
Scientology and collecting the damages are two very different matters.
SP9
Comparatively few individuals have ever made it to SP9, which requires
that one not only makes SP7 by bringing a suit, but passes through SP8
by winning it, then finally, to qualify for SP9, collects the damages.
The cult is quick to trumpet its respect for the values of law, order,
and justice when it is bringing actions against other people. When the
law finds against them, the response varies from accusations of duped
judges through to a flat refusal to pay.
